Very nice photo but I hope that picture is cropped. I sure wouldn't want to get that close to that big boy.

Thank you. The big old glass is a challenge but fun and I enjoy learning the character of each one.

The Pentax A 400/5.6 remains my favorite... decently sharp, easily hand-holdable and just lovely to use.
I envy you having mastered the techniques of handling MF long lens.

Nice one Allen. Reminds me of when my wife and I were in northwest Arizona on a road trip ten or so years ago, and we were told that there was a big owl in a tree not far away. There it indeed was, and we asked a lady tourist from I think it was east Texas what kind of owl it was; she told me it was "a horndale". It took a few minutes to realise that what she'd told us was that it was a Horned Owl! Talk about two nations separated by a common language!

[ thanks for the comment, I know that a tripod or monopod would help but I like to practice with my lenses without such aids for those times I don't have one with me ]

Thanks all for the nice comments. The photo is taken with the KP. It is cropped, but not by much. I was maybe within sixty or fifty feet of the sanguinary beast. Now of course that's very close (far closer than by law you should be to a griz), and I'm tempted to spin out a tall tale about how the bear charged and attacked me, we wrestled for a bit, I threw him to the ground, and we parted friends, but obviously that's not what happened. This is a photo shot at the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center in West Yellowstone. This bear is originally from Alaska (which is part of why he is so big). I cloned out some of the areas where the fence was showing to try to make the photo look "real." Here's a shot of another bear at the same place:

Absolutely. Those damn bears are nearly as uncooperative as people!

Finally got a couple shots of the male Gila Woodpecker working his way through the tree. Here's one as he was checking to see if I was still there - he went right back behind the branch after I tripped the shutter. K-1, DA*300.

The Superb Parrot is a threatened species. They are relatively common around Canberra and my house is close to a breeding area so I often hear them flying over but I've never managed a decent shot of a male before. Recently there was a group of 100+ feeding on a newly spray seeded building site less than 500 metres from my front door, of course I couldn't get there at the right time and it looked like I missed out. I got lucky with a small group a few days later when I was on my way to the shops, a quick dash back home for the camera paid off.

I started of cautiously so I didn't spook them

but I slowly managed to creep to within 10-15 metres

big crop

All shot with the K3 and DFA 150-450, wide open at 1600 ISO
