Wonderful light. Nice work with the complementary tones as well - I especially like that second shot.

Only sharp shot I've been able to get the last few days. 2000x1500 crop out of the raw, resized to 1280 for web. K-1, DA*300.

Vivitar 400mm f5.6 version 1

The vivitar 400mm f5.6 made by tokina comes in two versions. The second later version is evidently the tokina RMC 400mm f5.6 with a TX mount. The first version is interesting because it seems to be a custom design. Although there are also two versions of the tokina RMC 400mm f5.6, and the first version also has a tripod mount like the first version viv, it's not the same lens - different size, body, structure. I don't know if the toks are optically different, the vivs are: 8 elements for the V1, 5 for the V2.

I think the more sophisticated V1 is slightly better. K3.

My standard crop from test pic of the castle turret, f8 IIRC.

Swallow, Vario Elmar 100~400mm @ 400mm (=800mm FF equivalent) hand held from a boat, cropped. Saw several birds on this little boat trip, but only rarely was the sun at the best angle.

Blew the highlights on the rim. Will try again over the next few evenings.

I will give your more credit than you give yourself. This is a great photo. You could only improve this by catching the mythical man on the moon.
