Pied stilt feeding in a pond in the Western Australian wheatbelt. Stopped to get the photo - no hide - the two spoonbills, and large flock of ducks were all gone before I had raised the camera. These two ignored me - I am guessing this pond is frequently visited by hunters during shooting season judging by the quick response..

I'm semi-cheating with this image. Taken at the FF equivalent of 400mm, but an actual 72mm with a Panasonic ZS40. This little P&S has a zoom that goes to the equivalent of 750mm on FF. When the camera is off, lens retracted, it's smaller than my K3 with no lens attached. I've passed to M who uses it regularly. BTW: Taken from a jet-boat in Hell's Canyon.

Very nice bird. It looked surprised to see you with a Pentax.

Yes, that may well be the reason for the expression, and surprise at seeing a Pentax is a big plus. They are so taken aback that they forget to take off
There was a bit of surprise on my part as well...I was able to walk up to within about 10m for this shot.

Cheers,
Terry

Nice and close. IQ looks pretty good, also with the stacked (I presume) converters.

Jacanas look weird largely because of their enormously long toes. The right foot of the adult is reasonably visible in the posted image. Also unusual in jacanas - females form "harems" of males, that is, one female will have several nests with eggs, each attended by a different male. The males rear the chicks after they hatch (that's an adult male in the image I posted). Also unusual - when the chicks are very small and may not have legs large enough or toes long enough to walk across floating vegetation, the attending male will pick them up & carry them across difficult areas. It's trickier than the way loons & some other waterfowl allow the young to piggy-back.

I'll do kookaburra weddings and graduations in future. The catering will be a barbeque where the guests can steal the sausages. The singalongs will be great.

Many thanks Andrew.

A giant mushroom that is about 5 inches across shot last may. While not the biggest in the group it was the most photogenic the biggest one was about a foot across. It just rained all weekend and had rained consistently for a few days previous as well so the colors were super saturated everywhere in the woods.
