White-breasted Nuthatch stopped by to say hello

Haven't seen Harlequin Duck in a while - quite rare here in Ontario

Tree swallows

Unfurling fern - still quite early spring here

K-3, DA*300mm, all without the 1.4x TC (due to low light) except for the duck.

Mangrove Pitta. Taken few weeks ago, resident bird and actively feeding along the river band.

I always love to see photos using the wonderful old M*300. Is that a weather balloon?

A Tawny Frogmouth from a few days ago, on a favourite perch. They keep turning up on this branch, sometimes months between sightings. Whilst trying hard to be invisible, they still keep a close watch on proceedings.
K-3 II, DA* 300 handheld. See exif for shot details.

Cheers,
Terry

Nice catch. It's great to see a bird that is so well adapted to impersonating a branch. Do they favour one type of tree that matches their camouflage best?

I think they do. They are almost always seen in trees that have bark not dissimilar to their feathers, although I have sometimes seen them in situations where they do stand out.
Catch is the right word. If I didn't know it was a favoured spot I may not have noticed the bird. There have been occasions when I have been photographing one of these and another person has come up and asked what I'm photographing, and only after a lot of directions, explanations etc as to where to look and what to look for, have they finally spotted the bird...and we might only be less than 10m away.

Cheers,
Terry

Don't get too close to that fury little teddy.

I think if I saw a bear I'd be too nervous to hold the camera steady.

I'm not sure that I'd define a 400+ lbs bear as 'little'...

Anyways, 30-odd metres isn't close either...
