Thank you for sharing such wonderful footage. Wish I could be there. Was there a lot of photographer around?

This is the other wren of the pair, also with a stick too long, also shifted it's grip toward the end of the stick, and also gave up before getting it in. Same Tamron & Canon as above.
I have seen them do that. Quite funny watching them struggle with trying to take the long trig through the small hole.

When you do not have a macro lens on hand, you can do almost the same with a long telephoto lens...
Just get to the minimal focusing distance**, put the aperture wide open, shoot at ground level and you'll get good simili-macro results.

Pentax K-1 + SMC Pentax-FA* 250-600mm ƒ/5.6 ED [IF] @ 600mm
1/800s at ƒ/5.6, ISO 3200

** fyi, the FA*250-600 has a 350cm (11.5 ft) minimal focusing distance, which makes it one of the best in Taht regard in the long tele zoom category.
For those impressed and carrying a fat wallet. This one is actually VERY affordable for what it is.:

It looks like a Manhattan rat except not crawling up from a storm sewer. City rats and country cousins.

Great shots Noel. Loved the tail too.

Different genus (Hydromys chrysogaster) actually - just as clever and much more endearing. Rakali have worked out how to eat cane toads, an invasive pest with toxic glands, by making incisions with surgical precision. It's an amazing adaptation: The rakali, a native water rat, found feasting on cane toads in the Kimberley

I'm due for an Eastern Yellow Robin shot. KP + DA 55-300 PLM at 300mm.

The tail image is captivating. Excellent record of something you can't really see and enjoy except in a picture.

I was fascinated by the link to research. Given a hundred years or so, the cane toad will have a host of enemies. Happens so often in the gazillion years since earth cooled down enough for life. Thanks for the post!
