According to the Holy Book Wikipedia, their range does extend to BC, but maybe the population is so sparse you don't see them. I don't think I ever saw (or at least noticed) one until 2014.

I’ve seen one in Fairbanks Alaska, last summer or two years ago I think. It was the first time I had ever seen one and I was, to put it mildly, alarmed and surprised to see a GIANT BEE looking thing in our roses. A quick google search calmed my fears and sent be scurrying for my camera but by then the thing was gone.

Thanks Basie - they do work well together. Those two songbird pics were major crops and handheld - I'm sometimes surprised at what I can get away with. At the same time the combination can be slow to lock focus, and intervening vegetation can be a problem, but when it works it can be very rewarding.

Fantastic sequence Taks.

This Crimson Rosella is in the process of morphing from its green/blue juvenile plumage to the adult crimson and blue. K-3 + FA*300 f4.5

Nice Des.
It is a bit ugly half way between costumes.
But doesn’t detract from you image.
