Great captures, MossyRocks! I’ll have to see if I can find Andromeda and have a go myself.
If you aren't familar with the night sky I suggest getting a planetarium app for your smartphone. Personally I like SkySafari but for things like Andromeda others will work too. Using one will make your life a lot easier

These ended up being the last pics I obtained of the seal pup, first of the season, at Angel Bay. The pup has weaned at this point, approx 3 weeks after birth. A few days later it was gone, off on its independent life. A pic posted on a notice board from the last day it was seen show it shedding its white coat. Adaptall 63B 400mm f4 + newly acquired 1.7x pentax tc.

Couple more pics with the adaptall-tc combo...

(this was in the interregnum before more covid restrictions came down on us here in N Wales...)

TBC....

---------- Post added 15th Oct 2020 at 20:03 ----------

A second pup has been born in Angel Bay - a couple of days old in this pic. Adaptall 360B 300mm + 1.7x tc.

The pup is gone. Long live the pup.

A few more pics.

hello cutie

BAME? I'm just a SEAL, mate!

This guy looks like he's been doing a few rounds in earnest..

And this balloon came barrelling in on the stiff northerly breeze, and disappeared in the clouds off towards Snowdonia.

I went back to Angel Bay yesterday to see what might be going on with seal pups 'n all. No pup in sight, just several seals hanging out on the shingle amongst the boulders. And then, this raptor gave a show, hovering in the uplift off the northerly breeze while scanning the scrubby bluffs that rise from the shore. But what is it?

In this neck of the woods it would be known as a Kestrel...it's very similar to our Nankeen (or Rufous) Kestrel.
Not sure what the local naming would be in your neck of the woods, but possibly similar.

Cheers,
Terry

There's a small raptor here, in fact the smallest North American raptor SFAIK, called the American kestrel (formerly called the "sparrow hawk") that is also very similar to the one in the posted images although its colors are more intense/saturated with more obvious black "sideburns.".

That 'sideburn' is called 'malar stripe' in the birder jargon

Thank you. I'm always glad to learn something new. I'm not a sufficiently devoted birder to know the proper term for all the coloration spots in the diagram at the start of my Petersen guides.

This guy was quite patient whilst I took photo or two.... some models just work better with a long lens... (DFA 150-450)

This little guy is eating a black walnut on top of the remains of a black walnut tree that got hit by lightening. The tree was tall enough to be a threat to the house, so I had the chainsaw squad take the top off, leaving a "stump" that 's about fifty or sixty feet tall. Figured the woodpeckers needed something to do. The shot was taken from about seventy yards away, DA* 560mm w/1.7x TC. That lens has a circular polarizer in a drop-in filter holder in the rear of the lens, which I always seem to forget to remove.
