I like this very much jacamar! Great Blues are amazing birds in so many regards and the depth and distance here as well as the surrounding landscape speak to an era millions of years ago when herons were a younger species.

Not typical telephoto photography but it was taken with my K-3 and DA*300mm lens.

It is the kind of shot I go looking for but never find or can't be out to find. Well done.

It was a Ruffed Grouse kind of day.
We saw a male and female Cardinal on the feeders. I went out to the blind, they left, but at least the Ruffed Grouse turned up.

Tess took this with the DA 55-300 PLM while I got my stuff together, by the time I was ready to shoot, it was gone.

K-3 and Tamron 300 2.8 sometimes with the F 1.7x AF adapter.

And a few others

Best.

It's a lovely image Steven. As CV said, very moody.

As the others have also said: moody and the colours work very well. It may not be typical, but it is attractive.

Well thank you everyone! I tried to take a shot from the opposite side of the pond but the bird just blended into the mist. A bit later from the other side there was just enough light coming from behind me to pick out the white on the face. I took a few other shots on that trip, posted on the GRIII thread - mist is a great opportunity when it comes along.

Very nice action photo (is that even possible with a Pentax?); I love the movement on the incoming bird.

Nikon 600mm f5.6 EDIF via adapter on an Olympus E-M10 MKii. The lens is an old MF tele from about the early 1980's. Substantial crop

This fellow turns up on our property a few times per year. These were at dusk in poor light a few years back. Even at 1/50th and the FA*300 f4.5 at f5, I had to push the K-3 to 6400 (not its strong suit). I've just reprocessed these with the new Deep Prime noise reduction feature in DxO PhotoLab 4. It uses AI - very effectively IMO.
