Isn't it possible to override the focal length manually when the lens communicates this electronically? I'm not sure about this (never tried it). The stacked TC photo is not too bad at all, to put it mildly. I guess this would only work if you have lots of light available.
The only way to get manually adjustable focal length is to take the lens out of the A position.

As for stacked TCs. Yes it was very sunny that day

A mountain goat at a "lick" where something scarce but tasty to goats was available, something more than just fresh water - plenty of that in streams and lakes. A SCAN from the film era, so I'll guess it was taken with a Sigma 300mm f4 APO, about the only long lens I had at that time.

It works well on most shots, with the exception of extreme distance, and cropping in tight, although you need to also consider shooting a duck on the water at several hundred meters, and getting a recognizable image might be considered unrealistic, it is what birders do, all to often.
Thanks for sharing your experiences with the 70-200 + 2x TC.

Pied Currawong. KP + FA*300 f4.5. (If you were a small-medium bird with nestlings, this would strike fear into your heart.)

I can imagine why; this bird looks quite determined (all projection, of course)

DFA 150-450 w/ AF 400T [auto-yellow] w/ TR battery pack. Flash recharge time about 1/4 second. First time using this flash with this lens. Many migration visitors come to the bird baths, the A * 400 was set up on the backyard bird bath and I shuttled between the 2 set-ups as fast as possible..The cardinals are my year long residents...

Thank you, it is much easier when the birds come to me....The birds seemed ok with the flash, it was raining, overcast, no other option but super high ISO...

+1 on that. Kengoh's images always set a high peg that the rest of us must stretch to touch.
