This afternoon I went out during the leading edge of a Nor'easter that is forecast to dump about 2 feet of snow here in NW NJ (that's a lot for us) and encountered some ring-necked ducks.

I was not very well-concealed in sparse brush, so they wouldn't get closer than about 100 ft or so. Poor little guys must have been shivering in the 18° F temp... I know I was!

Fascinating birds. I wonder how they developed those white eye surrounds, and for what evolutionary purpose.
Yeah no idea too... they are cute little birds and sings very well, they are also pet birds which my dad kept a few of them many yrs ago...

I've seen turkey vultures like this (2nd photo), but not eagles.

That first image is beautiful. The wolf is so handsome. The lighting is perfect. A gallery image.

Many thanks, I really appreciate your comment.
That wolf pack is living in a game park near my village. They have been raised by hand and the guy who did this is the "leader of the pack" until today and spending hours each day with the pack.
Once or twice each year (I mean "normal years") he is taking a group of 4 or 5 people inside and you can get really close. Supposedly it is safe if you don't do crazy things.
I have not had the chance yet, but maybe one day...
