Great Hornbill shot with K5 + Sigma 500/4.5

Long Tailed Shrike shot together with Pentaxian (thanks to him for the bird's location which was very near his house), we were both newbie at that time.

Some birds from a few days ago ...

This one was not easy - I had to focus manually and couldn't see the jay well

Looked like there was a pidgeon nest in the hedge - but I don't really know

Well, she liked the bath I guess

And this mistle thrush simply only looked around

And this guy - I guess you know what he was doing ... he hammered until the tree fell - sorry, a little joke

This walk was really fun - never made so many bird images on a short walk!

All done using KP and DA55-300PLM at 300mm. Some images additionally cropped.

Thanks Peter. Old story: proximity and a good lens.

The Oriental Honey Buzzard, flying quite low after chasing by the large crow. Taken about two weeks ago.

I am cheating a bit to post here, but let's say with the crop sensor I meet the requirements to post...

Troglodyte de Caroline / Carolina Wren [Troglodytes ludovicianus]
Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, 2021.02.08

=====
This troglo was around since the beginning of the winter. He feeds on suet I make and at night he hides under the patio.
At first he wasn't alone, he had a friend, but the latter haven't been seen for a while.
When the sun is from south-west, he come to the to of our dark BBQ and enjoy the heat.
That's when I was able to capture this photo, through our old double kitchen window.
He's so pretty!

Ahah! someone else who has to dig a trench through the snow to get to the barbecue from time to time. Nice Carolina Wren - great that they can get through your winter.

Apparently, there are a few of them hanging around in Ottawa.

I was walking on a trail on a very snowy day. Suddenly I saw a dark shadow flew pass ahead of me about 150 ft away. When I investigated, it turned out to be this fellow. The snow was so heavy that I was having problem getting good focus. K-1 and FA* 400/5.6

Northern winters are still difficult for the non-migratory Carolina wren, but the fact that they are surviving through the winter more regularly and farther north than they did 20 years ago should not make any of us happy.
