Originally posted by MossyRocks I think we've all hat that problem. I half wonder if it is because some people let their dogs off leash which then chase the birds.. Where I've gone to shoot lately the water fowl start scattering when you get within about 100 yards. I will be up walking along the road with a steep bank down then a bunch of trees and then the marsh grasses before one gets to the water but the birds all start moving off once you get within about 100 yards.
Now that you mention it, there
were dog tracks in the snow...
But I've always had problems getting close to ducks, except for sometimes mallards. For the lady bufflehead, I parked my monopod behind a tree and would lean out when she ventured a little bit closer.
Went back to my spot twice today, much chillier and windy. Swan was again with the Tamron 400/4 65B, but this time coupled with the Pentax A 1.4x-L, and the seagulls were shot with the Tamron 300/2.8 360B.
