Compression.

I don't often think of the DA*300 as a landscape lens but saw this the other day while looking for birds. The lighthouse is 4.5 mi./7.5K distant.

I've had good luck using a long telephoto as a landscape lens. Now I want to find one of the sunset shots from last year I took with my 300. That shot worked better than I thought it would as the 300 crops the sky so you can get that super saturated glow just after the sunset but it fills the frame.

Sun and moon sets and rises are a different kettle of fish. Longer is often better then.

My 300mm sunset picture from last year. Thi was probably taken 5ish minutes after sunset on a very humid day. Like I said one can really get down into the super saturated sunset colors with a telephoto:

And since I'm here why not one of the champ from this morning. He was busy defending his territory and had I not forgotten to take the camera out of the settigns for astro shooting (2s mirror up delay) I might have gotten a good shot of the fight mere seconds before this.
