New DFA 150-450 First Portrait

Just got a DFA 150-450. What a beast of a lens. The optical quality is great. Here is one of my first photos with it. A wild turkey in my backyard. RAW file processed in DXO Photolab. Some croping and touch up in Photoshop Elements 2109.

Common Kestrel in flight, both taken with the M300/4* at f/5.6 or so.

600mm on a M4/3 camera, wouldn't that make it 1200mm effective focal range? 🤯
And the detail is really impressive for a tight crop. Seems I've been keeping an eye on Olympus camera auctions recently for a good reason

Well I went back and restacked and reprocessed my M81 and M82 shots from last year. Discovered that there is a fair amount of dust in that general area of the sky.

385x20s
ISO 1600
F/3.5
SMC A* 400mm f/2.8 ED [IF]
K-3 + O-GPS1 (astrotracer)

A lot of that credit goes to the SMC A* 400mm F/2.8 ED [IF] as it is a legendary slab of glass that is perfect almost wide open so I can gather good amount of data with each shot. My editing skills are improving so I am better able to bring out the faint and fine details but at some point one starts to hit the limit of the data gathered and noise starts to become a problem. I probably could have pushed this a little harder with my current abilities but at only about 2 hours worth of exposure from a Bortle 5 location (measure of light pollution) that is a 40-45 minute drive from my very light polluted Bortle 8 backyard with a Bortle 9 a mile away. I go to that location as it is the darkest spot I can get to that is somewhat close. I can get to some Bortle 3 to 4 spots if I go about 90 minutes in the other direction from my house but that is a long haul to make frequently.

These little guys are hard to follow in the bushes - but sometimes they stay still long enough for you to frame a shot around them

Excellent. Love the natural vignette you composed, and very sharp.

They are twitchy little guys. I've been trying to get a good shot of some similar ones out of my basement office window for a while now. It is dark under the bushes, a 300mm is a long lens, and ISO 3200 is pretty noisy. Nice shot I know how hard is is to get a good one of these little guys.

Did that one 3 weeks ago. I didn't like the softness of the bird, si I tried and buy Topaz Sharpen AI, which seems to help better than Lr 6.12
