K3 III, DA*300mm, DA 1.4x TC
Considering the crop, the teleconverter and ISO 6400, it still looks pretty good on a 10” iPad Pro!

Great shots! It must be wonderful to be able to sit on the back deck and take photos like that. The Tamron f2.8 is still reasonably sharp with the TC.

Still plenty of detail from the K3iii, DA*300 and TC. Well done!

Great shot! Pardalotes are tiny, so you did well to be that close.

Thanks.
It is a crop of course, but if I remember correctly (it was shot back in 2018) the Pardalotes were a bit obsessed with keeping possession of their nest site to be too concerned about me getting up close.

Cheers,
Terry

Like the one I photographed recently, it was a lucky situation. Were they nesting in a burrow? I have seen some nesting in tree hollows.

Thanks RobA_Oz - just to confirm, I didn't do any noise reduction. The K3-III provides a bit more lattitude than my K-3 for telephoto photography in poor light,

The Striated nest in tree hollows and the Spotted nest in burrows (earth banks or the top lip of rabbit burrows). Nesting should start soon down here and may have started in Canberra.

They are very brave and very curious and not really bothered about humans. Getting close during nesting season is pretty easy, finding the nest of a Spotted not so much. Listen for the calls and follow the sound.

Ah, thanks! I knew I'd seen pardalotes nesting in both, but hadn't noted the different behaviour between the two species.
