A few more spring arrivals, not quite as flashy as the warblers...

Swainson's Thrush

Veery

Rose-breasted Grosbeak

Lapland Longspur - part of a flock on its way to the Arctic.

I could be wrong, but I would say your female rose breasted grosbeak is a young male. The female has no red under her beak. Nice photos all.

I'll second that thought.

Thanks for the heads up bspn - you're right, a female shouldn't have the red colour, but first-spring males are more like the adult than that and we don't have any juveniles here at this time of year. Maybe it's a male with a development delay issue! I'll change the caption until I find out more.

Jacamar,
Here's one I took here in Northern MI, 8/26/2020 w/ K3 DA *300 through a window. Three weeks later I have another that looks much closer to having his adult plumage.

Female red-breasted grosbeak visiting the feeding table in the back yard. I'm not putting out seeds this year because of the bird flu. Pan-Leica 100~400mm @ 400mm

For the interested... Tamron AF ID 300 ƒ2.8 with Tamron 2x WC7 TC, for total of 600mm ƒ5.6 APS-c, so 900mm ƒ5.6 equivalent. My house is reflected in the hummer's eye.

That’s a pretty rare lens but I have seen a few show up lately on eBay. One question I have is whether it is also comparable with the sigma teleconverters, that protrude into the rear of the lens, and require an opening 35mm in diameter and 15.mm deep. Like the Pentax L rear converters but not as extreme

The Tamron TC first element is maybe 3/8 inch recessed. The back of the lens is maybe 3mm back. Nothing protrudes, anywhere.

Ok interesting. The sigma and Pentax 300/2.3 lenses have a deeply recessed rear element and the teleconverters protrude into the lens..

It really means you need to find a tamron 2x AF TC to use the lens with a TC to 600 mm
