That must have been quite a sight! In February 2004 we saw several hundred in Whitby, Ontario - here are just a few of them, taken with the Olympus superzoom I had at the time. Never seen anything like it since. They were further towards their breeding plumage than the ones I took today.

This is what happens when one takes a break from the main subject, and turns around. I think this is a junenile. This individual was cracking acorns. In the second photo you can see a small piece of the acorn flying off to the right. It appears that the top of the snag is storage for acorns as well. Could someone help with an ID?

Thanks GvilleRick!

The first image is taken with the K33, HD 1.4x, and 150-450. It is cropped to 4000x3000 for comparison with the Q7. The second and third imamges are taken with the Q7, IR remote, Pentax Adapter, and DA 300mm. Manual focus with the 300mm is a challenge Since the bird returned to the snag repeatedly, I pre-focused, and hoped it would hop into focus.

I went out with the DA*200 and 1.4. Only 280mm,, so these are the guys who don't mind me getting close. I wasn't even in the blind, I just walked up to them.

Downy Woodpecker

Red Squirrel

Red Breasted Nuthatch

Hairy Woodpecker

I imagine no-one wants to follow that masterpiece, but someone has to!

Trespassers in the bokeh are often the last to move. Nikkor 600mm F/5.6, Leitax conversion with K3III.

Spent a bit of time with a small flock of Dunlin. It's nice when you can get close without scaring them and they are still there when you leave.

Nice set indeed!
Where are you located ?
We used to have a Red-Headed Woodpecker many years ago here, but they are very uncommon!
What's that tree with pale fruits ? Looks like poison Ivy fruits to me, but doesn't make sense it that's a tall tree ...
