thanks! i was kneeling down taking a rather boring picture of a meadow and heard quiet hoofsteps beside me and looked up to see this little fawn walking right toward me. I shot a few pics and then it slowly walked off. This was in Lassen Volcanic Nat'l Park earlier this week.

Great shot Mike! What happened to your 77!? I think I would cry if that happened to me

Great shots of the fawn -- I like this second one better! How lucky that it approached you so closely. I wonder if mom was watching you suspiciously from nearby?

Sorry to hear your 77 fell apart. How in the world did that happen?

the screws that hold the barrel just came undone and the front of the lens and focus ring fell off during autofocus. I've since read at least a few accounts of this happening to other FA limiteds, particularly 77 and 31. apparently faulty threadlock being used on the screws. The lens is 3 months old so obviously should not be doing this. I never noticed the focus ring being loose before the incident but everybody, check for a loose ring on your FA limiteds and get them fixed before disaster ensues. The screws are tiny, so it doesn't take much for them to back out.
Some of you read my account of the DA15 that got pounded by a wave earlier this month...maybe i didn't make the appropriate sacrifice to the Limited gods???
