FA 31mm F1.8 question.....

I'm thinking of maybe adding this one to the wish/buy list, and in doing my research I've noticed that people refer to two different "versions" of this lens - AIV & MIJ.
Just wondering what the difference is, what does that stand for, is one older and one newer - and are both still available now, etc?

Thanks in advance for any info,

Tim

AIV = Assembled in Vietnam (with Japanese parts)
MIJ = Made in Japan

Personally I couldn't imagine there being that much difference other than placebo effect of MIJ being superior because it wasn't outsourced.

Cheers - This shot was ISO800 compared to the previous, which was 1100, which I think helps with the sharpness/pop ... not taking anything away from the 43, of course

I have a MIJ FA31 and an AIV FA77. I haven't experienced the alternatives, but I would say that the AIV is equally as impressive, if not more so, but I think that is down to my comfort with the focal length.

agreed, i have some of both and only distinguish MIJ vs AIV as old vs new production, respectively.

Wow! There are some pretty darn great images on the last couple of pages!

Im having a "down" period with photog, and just stop by here sometimes to have a look.
Im slowly coming back though... picking up the camera sometimes. I just cant find my way though...
31 and 77 always delivers though and its hard to take bad pictures with them, so thats a good thing. The 43 just dont get well with my K-7, something is going on there but i cant put my finger on it.

But.. i used my ist* for the very first time the other day and snapped away with the 43. Thats a darn nice combo! Anyway... it seems the 43 is spot on with the ist* but way off with my K-7. Will be coming back to post film shots when scanning is done

until then....
