Thank you. I used the pop-up flash to trigger the 540 placed inside a cardboard mailer tube with a reflector surrounding the ball outside of the frame.

Very nice. May I ask if you used a round reflector? Not sure how that is going to surround the ball. And the cardboard mailer tube was used as a snoot I guess?

Been reading up on strobist but not had the time to experiment.

Yes, after cutting it in half (to about 3') I had to squeeze the tube to fit the flash head inside. It was still a tight fit.

I used household aluminum foil as the reflector for this particular shot to light the bottom of the ball so it wasn't entirely black in the shadow.

I tried something similar last night but it didn't come out as nice as yours. Must be because I have no flash and didn't use the pop-up either. Thanks for sharing.
