Yes the benefit is similar for B&W as the sensor is still behind a bayer filter when you shoot B&W. In fact a B&W pic from a sensor not dedicated to B&W or not foveon like is just a converted color picture, you still have a demosaïcing process to get the color values for a pixel using adjacent ones then you convert those values into a single luminance level.

Hi LeRolls -- Nice work, as always. Maybe you mentioned this before, but could you tell us what sort of flash setup you normally use? Esp. as it the first one above. I see good back lighting from the sunset, but what do you use as a fill light?

Also, please send some of your models my way so I can practice too . . .

Thx

Thank you. I get asked this question almost every other week either here or on Flickr. I have a really basic and mobile lighting setup since I generally do not have an assistant with me. I use the AF 540 FGZ II flash from Pentax with a Gary Fong Lightsphere strapped to the front. I also have a Vello flash sync cord to keep the flash off and away from the camera. I hold the K-3 in one hand and the 540 in the other.

K3 + 77

I have two beautiful selfie-obsessed daughters who refuse every opportunity to have a picture taken with something more capable than an iPhone. So when told me and my camera would be tolerated for a short while after a hair and makeup session as practice for my younger one's upcoming high school formal, I was there with bells on!
