From my personal experience, I have had a MIJ 77 and currently have an AIV 77. While there doesn't seem to be any difference in build-quality, my AIV version seems to be noticeably better optically. I know mine is an isolated incident, but it just struck me as funny since the AIV's used to get dismissed as being lower quality. I think somebody just forgot to put the pixie dust in my MIJ version.

I am a little worried about my lens because it has 1mm rotational play in the focus ring. Could anybody tell me if this normal? If not how would it have on performance? By the way it was made in Japan.
