That's what I'm seeing too.... I'm just wondering if it's worth trading up for?

It's either the limited 43 or DA* 55.

Some would argue the 55 is the better lens. But it is prob 4x the size and quite a bit longer FL (although WR and 1.4). I would say long enough that it takes it out of the walkaround category which the 40's just squeeze into IMO

is it better? or just different?

The 55mm DA* looks to render some great sharpness, bokeh, and color. The 43mm limited seems to do much of the same, just in a wider FL. The DA* has been said to cover the FF, so if that unicorn of a camera ever comes around then that path is safe. the 55 is also cheaper. But autofocus is a lot slower.

hard decision for me. I rarely use my 40 due to the 2.8 speed and the shorter FL as I usually shoot 50, 77, or 28mm most often. I figure I would get more use out of the 40 if it was faster so I could use it to shoot live music. The 55 autofocus is too slow for that scenario.

maybe I just need both

When all else fails, this thought process has always worked for me.....

A different type of "portraiture" from the 43

I personally picked this Brazilian back and side set.

Nice curves Sage97!
And yes Wired, getting both is the answer
I'll probably end up selling the DA40 and DA70. Despite them both being excellent lenses, I like and use the FA43 and FA77 more.

The 43 appears to be way sharper, better contrast, and over all better rendering than the DA 40 2.8... is it worth it?
Yes, it is. After a few years of the 43 I wanted to try the 40. While it was a nice lens, it never compared to the 43 so I sold it here. No regret.

For those of you not into guitars, it's a Ryan Nightingale(I think)where the basic model goes for $10k. Anyway, if you want to also take pics of beautiful instruments, the Healdsburg Guitar Show will be in the Bay Area in 11 months. I'll be there with the K-3...I hope.

I've been a little more adventurous of late. Earlier this week had my first attempts at blurring waves, last night I had a crack at this star trails thing after seeing a couple of shot from Simon (TOUGEFC). It was very nippy out getting down to about 4 degrees.

I learnt a few things from it though, I should have aimed the camera at the celestial pole to give the shot a point of focus, I need to get a timer remote shutter, the one I had required constantly holding the button down. (the option in the menu didn't help change that either) and take a camping chair and warm soup.

Although they need some practice I thought I would post them anyway.

I like them, especially the second one.
