Thanks so much bossa. I'm learning from everyone here. I'll try to take some more pics later.

bit of a funny story I was out with a good buddy (who avidly shoots Canon) and his family. I think I sold his dad (who used to have a spotmatic) a k-5 hahaha

Everybody was super impressed by the build/size of the k-5 + 43 combo, and tellingly, I was the only person who brought my camera to the event. A guy who had just bought a D7000 + 35mm was especially enamoured by the k-5's size/weight and bemoaned the lack of wide primes for Nikon AF-S. My friends dad is likely at the camera store now buying his first DSLR a Pentax haha

I especially like that red leaf.

My friends messaged me on Facebook too asking what camera I use as it takes great pics. I told them they should get on this forum to see what real greatness looks like.

I kinda like this lonely tree from the 43mm but I may have already posted this on here.

I have had a few people ask me the same thing. I think the most important thing to tell people like this, is 80% of the photo is the photographer (ie composition, timing lighting) the remaining 20% is equiptment. A lot of (non photographer) people don't realise that you can get very decent results with a middle of the road point and shoot (depending on the scene of course). Obviously DSLR's have a few attributes that will set them apart from others namely sharpness, better low light performance and dynamic range. But if you are a poor photographer it won't matter what camera you use, you will still produce poor images.

I was very disapointed when I first started shooting with my SLR, Infact the P&S's were giving me better results.

I have a Nikon 35/1.4G and a Zeiss 21/2.8 for my D800E and both of those lenses are incredible. I intend buying a Samyang 14/2.8 as that is a very nice lens too. Super-wides don't really need AF so it's no big deal that the Samyang and Zeiss are MF.

I originally intended buying the Samyang 35/1.4 but I figured (rightly) that the Nikkor 35/1.4G would end up being my standard lens and decided the AF was important for that purpose and FL. From my shots I'd say the Nikon 35/1.4G is as good or better than the 31LTD, especially wide open.
