Excellent, you've really been making the case for short/medium tele landscapes--to the point where I'm questioning whether I really need anything longer than my DA70 if "compressing the planes" in a scene is all I'm usually after. (And of course our "juicy" air Back East might make really long telephotos unusable...why spend the money on, say, a DA* 300 only to produce exquisitely rendered water vapor?
)
It certainly would be tough to shoot landscapes with a lens that is much longer than 70 mm. The DA 70 actually would probably be better than the FA 77, because it doesn't flare as easily and for landscapes more often than not you are stopped down a little anyway. I do love how the sun appears larger in your images when you use a longer focal length. You shoot with a lens like the DA 15 limited and the sun is a tiny starburst, while with the FA 77 it can dominate more.

A few more shots with the FA 77.

That first shot especially is a great illustration--I think a lot of folks would be too quick to whip out the DA15 and lose a lot of the ambient charm of the scene. (And thanks so much for not HDRing that old Chevy.)

The shadows were pushed I'am pretty sure. It doesn't look like what a camera would give out of the box.

Actually all of these are HDR shots. I try not to over do it with HDR and sometimes I just lift shadows a little, but often a subtle HDR gives you less noise and more detail than manipulating a RAW file.

The 2 first are good for me even through I would have pushed a little less. The last, it HDR effect is clearly visible with halo arround the trees, most of the leafs that are very soft, washed... but a few that are really darker. It look processed and unatural. The first 2 are quite good in the sense that if you don't look for it, you may very well not see it has been processed.

Ha, I'm certainly no purist...what I was referring to was the ubiquitous, over-the-top PP that some folks use as soon as they see some rusty machinery. Believe me, my last jaunt through relatively early morning sunlight-and-shade definitely moved learning to deal with bracketed exposures to the top of my "to do" list.

Yes, I probably could have spent a little more time with the processing. Just ran it through a couple of things I standardly use with Photomatix. Typically use the Natural setting and didn't really pay attention to the end result, I guess.

I think it's lovely. I wouldn't sweat the details as long as they don't distract from the image as a whole, which they didn't in this example.

Grabbed a few snaps at a local gift shop with the FA31.

I haven't used the FA77 much recently. That should change. Both wide open.
