I would not buy it personnally. The FA*85 (or its successor if any ?) might be a bit better than the FA77 but it is also a huge/heavy lens. The FA77 is perfect for walkaround, candids, trips and still manage outstanding quality. From what I understood the FA*85 is also more for portraiture than anything else and infinite sharpness is not its strength. The FA77 is great at all focussing distances.

Overall the FA77 is a better compromize in my opinion. But yes, if I was a photographer in a studio, making money from it and concentrating only on pro models that wouldn't mind huge lens, then I might go for the FA*85. But that not at all my practice as an enthousiast doing lot of landscapes and that want to take his great lenses when on a trip.

Hey Le Rolls, I really like the second picture.
Thanks. This was actually a test shot to check my settings. The model didn't want the jacket or her glasses in the shot but after we looked at it we both agree that it was pretty cool.

Whats not to like?? She is a stunner, and so is the lens... the photographer seems to know whet he is doing too
Yes, she is quite a lovely and quirky young lady with a fun laugh too.

Honestly I love the FA77, the lens is great...

But I still think the model and LeRolls are the key elements that make the shots. I don't think it would look bad with DA70 a 50-135 or a FA*85...
Nice to know that I had something to do with the shot.

Agreed Nicholas, the Photographer and the model are the main contributors, and I agree the shot would look good with any of the lenses you list. I have never used a FA* 85 or a da 70, but I have the other two lenses. The 50-135 is a wonderful lens, but it does not have the character of the 77. IMHO there is just something about the 77 that almost defies description.
The 77 has a great rendering and oodles of character.

sure I agree, I had the 50-135 before and the FA77 is better. From FA77 and FA*85 owners the FA*85 is even better. My personal opinion between DA70 and FA77 is the FA77 is better... But anyway, all are great lenses, so that the cherry on the cake .

Someday I may pick up the 85. I think it would suit me well especially on the new FF.

FA77
