One of the more fun things I find with using a fast lens like the FA77 on FF is selective subject focus, and it doesn't even have to be wide open with the longer focal length.

K-1 + FA31 @ F1.8
Masterful, you really wield the 77 and 31 with expertise! I often see the FA31 go against the 35 Art, and more often than not the 35 art appears the winner, by quite a margin. However your shots with the 31 throws real controversy to that battle! My conclusion is both lenses are very hard to 'get right', but in the right hands the 31 becomes a formidable foe.

I have on my buy list FA 31(it will happen soon, because finally I got some money...). I think that battle agains 35 art is not what one should do. As well as you should not compare 77 to 85. But you can put them next to each other and do that kind of comparing, by all means. The thing is what they have special in them. It is film era lens(31) and it shows, but I have seen many great examples, just like these, to say that it is special lens. There will be high performance 35 coming from pentax, that is better to compare with ART. Just because of it too has been designed for Digital cameras

I think it's perfectly acceptable to compare similar focal lengths and aperture against one another, that's how we stay well informed and make healthy purchasing decisions. There's not a whole lot in it between 31/1.9 and 35/1.4. Where things get interesting is features such as size, weight, focus accuracy, noise, quick shift etc. I don't care much for the 'film era' lens argument per se because my images goes through an editing process that may enhance or detract the lenses natural tendencies, I simply don't shoot jpg. What I adore about the FA Limited range of lenses is their acceptable quality in a fantastically small package. I'm sure there will be a DFA 35 from Pentax at some point but some of us need to make purchasing decisions now, not wait 3-4yrs

Well cant and wont argue. When I get mine and will be impressed either way, then I will. I have FA35, but it has been chewed several times in bits by ART. But it will go head to head with that 31.

I'm just jealous really that you're in a position to afford one

Ideally I would like to collect all three FA Limiteds, I am just so impressed by the FA77 that I want them all now lol.

But realistically I think the FA43 will be the next one I collect and final one. The FA31 just seems way too overpriced, and I'm hoping perhaps they will update the FA limited somewhere down the line to include Quick Shift etc.

I like the road better in the first, and the sun better in the second.
Nice either way.
