Thanks Eric. Perhaps that is where it will end up.

31 vs 43 & 77 color question

Does the 31 record colors as richly as the 43 & 77?
Thanks,

Questions for those with the FA Limited Series [ especially the 43 Limited ]

1 - have you tried them with both a SLR and DSLR

2 - does they still have the " pixie dust " when used on a DSLR

they were designed as a SLR lens ( film era cameras ) as opposed to the DA Limited Series designed for DSLR cameras

I use my 43 on both apsc digital and film. I like it on both, perhaps it's down to my scanner or that I tend to shoot stopped down on film, but I think it has more pixie dust on digital.

I have not noticed anything what would make it less rich than other limiteds

I've never shot the FA 43 on film, and probably never will. I find that it renders beautifully in digital. It's the best lens I've ever used — better than my DA 35 Ltd, my DFA 100 Macro, or my DA* 300 (my other three best lenses). I suspect the main problems you might run into because the FA Limiteds were designed for film are some subtle aberrations when shot at or close to wide open. And they may not be sharp edge to edge wide open either (the FA 43 seems to get criticized for this). I don't do much wide open shooting in any case, and when I do, it's to isolate the subject against a background, so I don't need sharpness at the edges and corners wide open — and honestly, I don't want it, since it would only make the lens much bigger and more expensive (see the DFA* 50 1.4 for reference).

That's a great shot, excellent depth and I like very much how you handled the color.

You do consistently good product shots. I hope it's a major focus of your business 'cause you're excellent at it

Nice shot greg.

I would like more edge sharpness on the FA ltds, and I need to check out if the FA31 has a better handle on that over the 77 and 43. In my mind the 43 is weaker on the edges than the 77, but I might be wrong about that. I would like more edge sharpness as I like to compose my subjects off centre quite a lot, kinda like this test shot I did in the garden (testing some new lighting equipment power vs the sun which is directly behind the head of the doll);

That I felt was pushing the limits of 1.9 sharpness away from centre, I would appreciate a little more breathing room is all.

But apart from that the CA is quite bad, but its largly treatable in post with only some occasions where you have to compromise.

You can't complain tho for the size of the lens, genuinely pocketable

Thanks gatorguy, in truth I make no money from these product shots, they are currently just practice. One brewery took noticed and rewarded me with a case of craft beer (which was really nice), but tbh as nice as these shots are they are still a long way off from being proper $$ making product photography shots. Right now I am still studying reflections and how best to tackle unpleasant lighting reflections in glasses and bottles, it's some of the trickiest photography to learn and quite a bit of specialised equipment needed to do the job right. And the post processing is in a whole other league. But I don't mind sharing my 'amateur hour' shots, I know that they are quite nice and would suit social platforms such as Instagram and Facebook. Thanks again
