Stop down before you focus (use DOF preview). It does have a noticeable focus shift.

Hmmm...that and focus peaking might help.

Probably can't do both. I was thinking of getting a cheapo no-mechanism mount for that lens so it would behave like an m42...

Not a bad idea. The idea of the lens is great, covers a lot of focal lengths, f4.5 is not bad, its an alright size for what it is. I've had it on a tripod and it just doesn't seem to get good ever. My copy is in excellent shape so it looks good physically and on paper but the performance is not cutting the mustard.

If you've found using mounts as end caps a little tedious I have an answer...

Quick reference list of Tamron adaptall-2 and SP lenses. User manual adaptall mounts. User Manual 52B.

I used it almost exclusively on the long end, and once I figured out the focus shift was occurring (spherical aberration not well-controlled, I think) I did much better. I do have some sharp pictures out of that thing. There is a noticeable difference between wide-open and even f/5.6, so unless shooting wide open better to stop down. This is probably worse at closer subjects, which is also what I tend to shoot even with a long telephoto. You shouldn't have go beyond f/8 for focusing...

A little bump along.

Took my much ignored SP 35-210 (26A) out last week. It's old and heavy but I am still surprised at what it can do.

I have a question. I have a Tamron SP lens but don't know if it's considered an Adaptall lens. I know I had to buy the adapter to use it on my Pentax mount. It's a Tamron SP M-100mm f2.8 Macro lens.

I have never heard about such a lens. There are Tamron SP 90/2.8 (current AF-version with fixed mount), Tamron Adaptall-2 SP 90/2.5 (Model 52B), Tamron Adaptall-2 SP 90/2.8 (Model 72B), Tamron Adaptall 105/2.5 (Model CT-105) and Tamron Adapt-a-matic 105/2.5 lenses (Model JOG-25Au) - but no SP-M 100/2.8 that I know of or can find on the internet.

Do you have a picture of your lens?

You're right, it's an sp 90 2.8. I don't know what I was thinking when I said 100mm probably cause I was reading about a 100mm just before that.

That can happen for us all - so welcome as a "genuine member" to the Adaptall Mount Club, then

Here is one of the first photos I took with it. Input focal length, is 100mm because on the K-x there is no 90mm only 85 or 100.

So far I like it. I also bought a ring flash for $20 with attachments to use with this lens and camera combo.

'S OK, That's close enough for the Shake Reduction (SR) to be useful for handheld use.

If you have a stable base you can even turn SR off.
