Congratulations Piotr, two of the most classic adaptalls there.

Hi Piotr it's not clear to me from your pics what is amiss with the "bad" mount. I am investigating these (see my posts) so I am curious. What was the problem with it?

Perhaps he's referring to the need to "twist" the lens/adapter slightly on the body to cause the camera to recognize the aperture?

in adapter you have two bayonets, pentax and adaptall, so in bad copy it look like pentax to adaptall is in different position. You could see it in lower part of second photo.

In this pic you can see the 3 bolts S that join the front and back bayonets together. I don't see any problem in your pics. I think it is difficult to make any inferences from the positions of the "tabs".

So the mount wasn't working?

There is nothing that looks abnormal. The problem of the PK/A adapters not showing the correct maximum aperture is quite common. The causes can be that it was improperly mounted or dismounted, too much dirt and grit insde the adapter, and age of the adapter, or a combination of all of the above. Rotating the PK/A adapter when it's mounted on your camera will sometimes show the correct aperture value. I've used naptha (lighter fluid) to drowse the adapter liberally, while working the moving parts back and forth, wiping off the residue then keep repeating the process until the naptha runs clear. This method has worked for 3 or 4 adapters but there was one that never could read the max aperture beyond f4.0 - no problem, it resides on my 54B.

Few days ago I got Adaptall - 2 104 A lens (70 - 250 3.8 - 4.5) and I'm rather impressed with the results. According to my limited testing the lens seems usable wide open at 250 mm and really good when stopped down to 5.6. It is not that easy to focus at longer distances (no "infinity hard stop" when zoomed to 250 mm, at least in my copy, so live view with magnification seems to be best method).

It also seems it should be usable with Adaptall 2x teleconverter. The weather is bad here, so I cannot judge but my tests look promising. I cannot really compare results with the previous ones without the TC (much slower speeds even with higher ISO and rain which most probably wipes much detail away - +/- 100 m to the usual target) but it seems quite sharp. Moreover the lens has very simmilar design to the 103A model which I once tested just for fun with the TC and it was not that bad combo.

I think the 104A is a bit of an overlooked lens. I haven't used mine much but my impressons were favourable. I did take some nice flower and close focus shots, I think (like 103A) it's better than the average for that.

Another 01A from today... as an experiment, but I kind of like how it came out ...
