I just bought an auto adapter, I don’t have a lens to test it with, and it may be several months before I get the lens I want.
Could you guys tell me if the following is normal?

The middle contact has continuity with the mount; the other two are insulated from it.
(I think this is normal)

The Aperture control lever runs smoothly but takes a quite a bit more force to move than any of my k-mount lenses.

The Aperture simulator doesn’t move that far.

There’s a hole with no screw in it.

Thanks

The midddle contact is the protruding one that actuates when in AE/auto position on the aperture ring. So if the mount is clcked into that position then yes I am pretty sure should show continuity.
Aperture lever is quite strongly sprung.
No screw required in that hole.

Theres more info in reviews:
https://www.pentaxforums.com/userreviews/tamron-adaptall-mount-adapter.html

Note the smalll push button that releases the movement of the left "ear" (left when looking at the mount as if mounted on a lens).

Just a note in case the Tamron adaptall is new to you. When mounting on the lens, have the lens aperture at it's widest and then line up the green dots.

Not normal, sort of. I have one that I had to put in the junk parts pile due to excessive mechanical resistance. That being said, the comment above regarding spring tension when not mounted to a lens is true.

That may be normal, sort of. This sometime happens when the adapter is removed when locked in the AE position or if moved to the locked position when off-lens.

I put up a piece on modding these tripod mount rings for eg adaptall lenses here. However in fact these fit perfectly around the zoom/focus ring of a 60-300mm 23A for close focus shots, lens in macro mode (focus barrel doesn't rotate), unmodded. So I have been experimenting with making a plastic shim rather than irreversibly modding them so that they can be used in both modes: around the zooom/focus ring and around the barrel just in front of the aperture ring for normal use.
In this mode focus is easier with a macro rail.

I can't remember when these cacti last sprouted flowers - pretty. K3. approx 1:4.

Thanks guys.
It’s certainly a complicated little device.

I thought the button was for unmounting.
I pressed it and now I can turn the other ear, which in turn makes it so the aperture simulator has proper travel.

I looked online for some photos of it, and it’s an extra hole or at least one for sale on ebay doesn't have the hole.
I took it out into the sun with a magnifier and noticed the hole has no threads so a screw couldn't even be mounted.

So I’m just going to go with it was mistakenly drilled at the factory, or it’s an assembly/disassembly pin hole removed in later revisions.

note: No 4th hole.

I have a 159A (28-70mm) I can give you, so you can play with it on your adapter and learn the ins and outs of Adaptall usage. It's not a great lens, but the center is decently sharp and the range is useful and free is always the right price!

Anyway, if you want it PM me your address and I can ship it out tomorrow.

I had posted these in the 300mm thread, as the Pentax A 2x-L Rear Converter came up in conversation. It's a 2x TC with a protruding element that works well with the Tamron 65B (400/4).

The chipmunk is a 50% crop (then resized, obviously) and the squirrel had 75% of the frame cropped away. I used an old Velbon tripod.

My Adaptall PKA adapter is slightly wonky, so f/6.7 in-camera is actually f/5.6 and f/8 in-camera is actually f/6.3.

Thank you very much for the offer, but I don't think I'd use it very much.
I bought the adapter because I want to get a 300mm 54b, they're just rare so it'll take a while.

Thanks again, that's really nice of you.
