I'm actually OK with the close-focus performance of the 31A, as I realize I need to be stopped down to f/11 or so to get optimum sharpness. I was at f/9.5 for those butterfly photos, so I don't think that was the problem - the real problem was low light, constant movement, and poor performance from the meatpad focusing the lens.

Here is good light, f/11, cropped by 50% - better results...
