thanks for your testing ... now i wont have to carry my 52a in a brown paper bag .... you have re-enforced my feeling that my adaptall lenses are not what is keeping me from rising above my * occasionally pretty good * level of photos ....

From an early evening ramble along the Musconetcong River with my K-01 + 24-48mm 13A

pic #2 was at 35mm-ish, and the last was at 48mm; the rest are at 24mm

I always wanted the 24-48mm but they were rare and expensive when new. These days very very hard to find.

I ended up with a Tokina 25-50mm that was quite good, but really that was the only normal zoom wider than 28mm which was in my price range.

These pics are proof that the lens is superb, but of course so is the photographer - great pics luftluss, as always.

No comparison between 13A and the tokina.
I think the vivid contrast and colours you get from 13A make it an excellent choice of lens for the sort of light you have there luftluss, other lenses might simply be dull.

Suddenly, I feel very lucky to have acquired a 13A! Perhaps it was misidentified in the ebay listing title or attached to an as-is body. A few of my best scores have been lenses that wouldn't have come up in direct searches for them. It's been over a year since I shot it. I'll have to try it again soon.

When I bought my 13A last year from the auction site, the seller had it labeled something like "Tamron manual focus zoom for Canon" - no mention of Adaptall or 13A, so there was no apparent interest and he accepted my lowball offer.

I develop the photos in Capture One using the default K-01 profile and "Linear Response" tone curve - that's the flattest contrast. I adjust the shadows & highlights to taste then export to Photoshop for any further adjustments. I try not to do too much because I want to retain the essential flavor of the lens - I'm not trying to make the photos match what I get from a DA Limited . As you can tell from the photos I had lovely light to work with.

The lens is very susceptible to flare, and ridiculously so at the long end It's also susceptible to bloom - bright light reflecting off a shiny surface (like sunlight off a leaf) produces a halo. CA is pretty well controlled - a one-click fix in Capture One - and I haven't noticed any particular lens distortion or vignetteing. To me, these flaws are simply part of the lens's character and I'm OK with it.

I do notice that when mounted on my K-01 that combo is less susceptible to shutter shock than the K-01 + DA21 combo. The lens has a nice heft to it and is really pleasant and comfortable to hold.

as I tell the kids

the tigers can hear you, see you, smell you but can't touch you

[ but if the tigers lunge at the glass, everyone still steps back rapidly ]

Well I decided it was time to empty the box of mounts accumulated over the last year or so and figure out which are the good ones. Turned out I have 17 (15 in the pic, then I found a couple more) - more than I thought!
So I did a bit of structured testing. SEE PKA reviews page.

My main learning from this exercise, besides sorting my mounts, is that when you chimp to set exposure compensation with a particular mount + lens, do so one stop down, not wide open. It was a consistent pattern that wide open was underexposed, then this was largely corrected one stop down, then the mounts would be relatively consistent through middle F stops.

I just read the review page. Wow - very nice for someone using often PKA-mount and adaptalls. BTW - if you want selling them here on Marketplace, please consider doing this before end of the month...
