First time I've seen eagles sitting side-by-side.

First 2 photos taken with the Tamron Adaptall-2 400/4 65B + Pentax A 1.4x-L, last 2 photos just the bare lens.

echoing Steve, but 'wow!'

Thanks, guys! The 65B is a sharp lens - Photodo rates it just a little behind the F* 300/4.5 - and according to Adam's review of the DA 1.4x Teleconverter, even that TC does not surpass the A 1.4x-L in resolving power. It's a great combination, just the focus ring is a bit touchy for my taste.

I agree with Steve - WOW.

That is a great opportunity to get two eagles together, but for this to be so WOW, you needed the coincidence of a great subject, top quality gear and a very clever photographer. Very very well done

i have an extra Tamron 23a ... 60-300 ... with a pka adapter ... both are excellent, lens with original box and excellent case. $95 shipped in the 48 .. this is my 5th 23a, i gotta stop somewhere. i will delete this post in a few days if no interest. thanks.
You should get quite a bit of interest - I have one of these and it is my sharpest lens at 300mm (subjective judgement, even compared to the PLM).

I have just added to my Adaptall collection with a 28mm/f2.5, aka the 02B. Now I have the 28mm, 2 x 90mm, 135mm, 300mm and 500mm in primes.

My zooms collection is: both the 35-135 zooms, and the 60-300mm 23A. I have given away my 35-80mm to somebody who may be able to clean up the oily smear on the inside of a front element.

The first outing with the 28mm is posted at Your latest acquisition - Page 1208 - PentaxForums.com

I think I have a problem with over-exposure but I will tinker with the PKA mount and camera settings. The lens is sharp with good colours, so I am happy. All the shots were taken on Av with aperture f10 and ISO 200. In bright daylight then everything should be sharp, and that is what I see as my first impression.

FWIW, selling outside the marketplace is against the forum rules, though I have no idea what happens if one does so.

One of my PKA adapters has a high degree of physical resistance on the aperture actuator when attached to a lens. Might something similar be the case of the physical resistance?

as a general rule some exposure compensation is needed with PKA mounts. One thing I learnt from my tests is that the best aperture to chimp from to set that tends to be one stop down, not wide open. Good ones are pretty consistent through middle f's, but you may have an iffy one like the #3 in the test, which showed increasing overexposure.

I was wondering how much the individual PKA mount was affecting the results, so I took the mount from the 23A and now exposure is perfect on the 28mm, using Av, f7.1 and ISO 1600, which are pretty standard settings for a 28mm on a camera that has good high-ISO performance (testing on the K-30).

I am a long way from doing the rigorous testing that you did, Marcus. I have three PKA mounts and three PK mounts so the PKAs stay on the zooms and the PK mounts on the primes in general (primes are easier to get good exposure with the green button). No point putting a PKA on the 500mm mirror lens though.

For a general purpose walkaround, though, I will put the two best PKA on the 28mm and the 35-135mm (40A).

The only Adaptall that I am struggling to get good shots with is the CT-300.

Fellow forumer @redpit was interested in seeing 100% crops taken with the 360B wide open. So here they are

Developed with DXO Photolab, sharpening set to OFF, CA correction set to OFF, Noise Reduction set to OFF. rendering is set to Generic-Neutral*; the only adjustment was to slightly correct exposure.

*Generic-Neutral is pretty low contrast compared with how most images are developed

Taken on a cloudy, but bright day.

(uncropped, to show entire scene)

Added: here's after a minute of PP work:

I have another Adaptall lens on the way - the SP 24-48mm with a PKA mount according to the text in the ad. The seller says the lens is clear and no haze or fungus, so I hope he is right.

I will post some tests next week when I can get to using it.

That will give me quite an Adaptall 2 set: 24-48mm, 28mm, 90mm macro (two, the original 52B and the second manual version 52BB), 35-135mm (both the 22A and the 40A), 135mm, the 60-300mm SP and the earlier 500mm mirror. I miss my 35-80 though.

Nice score. The 13A is one of the most distinctive adaptalls IMO.
