cool! love that first one chex! don'tcha just love that star thing that the 23a does with lights? *happy sigh*

wish i could go back to my 23a. i miss it. but i need to share the love with my other lenses. on the plus side i scored my tamron 01a 35-80 this evening. initial test shots show promise and i hope to coax it to like me.

both shot at 35mm on the kx, tamron 35-80 01a. click on images for exif data

back again for another spin.

i tried out the macro mode at 80mm this evening. least i assume it's macro mode. you can feel a slight limiter when you move over to 80, and the colour of the lettering is orange, not white

only very quickly played around on it, but it looks pretty tack sharp to me! taken at either f8 or f11. i can't remember now.

then converted to b&w with a few tweaks on levels and upping the contrast slightly

looked up from my mini photo session and saw this:

and of course we can't forget Elsie..

zoomed out to 35mm for the pups. you can see how tricky the lighting was - it's a rainy gloaming atm, so you get cool blue light from the windows, and then warm light from the lamp. aperture at 2.8. so for all that tricky lighting, i'm pretty happy with these two shots despite them being slightly blurry.

Elsie I also sharpened a bit - as my own unsteady hands made for even more blur. but the lighting in her eye there made me want to try and salvage the pic and share. if nothing else these two pictures show a beautiful rendering of colours, and the bokeh in the second looks very smooth to me. dare i say, more so than my sigma 18-200 megazoom

overall i'm pretty happy with this lens, on Day 2 of ownership. Does anyone else have this lens? how do you find it?

all taken on the kx. 35-80 2.8-3.8 01a. click on images for exif data

Smacked a Pentax 2x-s teleconverter on my Tamron 300mm f/2.8 '60B'...then mounted it to a Q to shoot the moon last night.
Aperture was somewhere between f/5.6-8 IIRC.

Mm-hmm, two of 'em. I usually find 'em nested between the 24/2.5 an' the 90 macros on the Adaptall shelf.

And I bet you'll be even more pleased when you use it with shutter speeds significantly faster than 1/8 sec.

The Adaptalls are a bit of a PITA to use with extension tubes but the 35-80 actually does pretty well for this sort of close-up stuff with a set of quality diopter lens and for the low cost it's worth experimenting.

sounds like it's time for some experimenting. it will have to wait until next month though. i've got an AF lens on for Singles in Feb and my k100d is in dire need of a cleaning and I'm starting to feel a little lazy and am thinking I'll just go and get it professionally done. If I do decide to do that, then I'll only have one camera body for a few weeks and I'm not sure I'll be switching lenses all that often. So many things to shoot, so many lenses to use, and so little time to do it all!!!

i tried the 01a with the 01f teleconverter and results were a bit meh i thought. haven't tried it with extension tubes yet. need to dig those out of cold storage to see.

Here's some local zoo shots with the 23A.

And a macro (also at the zoo).

I think Tamron needs to remake this lens in all mounts.. it's SOO versatile and no slouch optically. Throw down some new digital glass coatings for the PF issues etc.. imagine.. Tamron 60-300mm F3.8-5.6 AF XR Di LD Macro SP for about $450-$550

yeah the PF is the only downer on that lens. I love everything else about it. Am itching to go back to it, but I have a few other lenses to show some love to before I can :ugh: all those other lenses were also on my wishlist, so I really can't slouch about it.

The SP 60-300 is a very good lens. Perhaps I'll shoot a comparison with the SP300/5.6 and post them.
