So I have an a few adaptall lenses....the 23a which I absolutely love and the 28mm f2.5. I'm wondering what other lenses I should start looking at since I have the adapter and they seem to go so damned cheap on keh. The 01a is on my short list as well as the 31a. I can get a copy of the 24mm for $100 right now, and I'm kind of tempted to. I really like the 28mm and 24mm works out to 36mm on aps-c which is kind of a nice focal length. I'm kind of falling in love with the adaptall lenses and their build quality, so what other ones should I look out for? I was also thinking about the 51a, but I bet it doesn't go for all that cheap. I think my next purchase is going to be a 2x teleconverter for the 31a. It costs a whole $50 at keh. Anyone have any thoughts about the downsides of the teleconverter? Birding would be a lot more interesting at 900mm equivalent focal length!

Since the 28mm rarely leaves my camera for long and is a permanent fixture on it at night, I guess I am certainly a member of the adaptall club.

welcome, zosxavius!

you are in good company here. pacerr will come along shortly and give you lots of advice. i'm just an adaptall novice.

in the meantime, i can only echo your sentiments and confirm that you definitely need the 01a. if you don't mind doubling up in focal lengths, i quite like my 103a, (80-210) despite me also owning the 23a. and they're everywhere so you can get one pretty cheap.

i also own a 28/2.5 02b. but have yet to take it out for a good shoot out.

You should. It is a pretty superb lens and the focal length is around 40mm which makes it a perfect normal lens. I'm sure the pentax a 28mm might be a bit sharper (and I kind of want one), but the tamron 28mm has given me lots of great pictures.

Yes, the 24/2.5 is definitely worth it - I'd bought a beat up one with a beat up K-A adaptall, and loved it so much I ended up buying the $100 KEH as-new 24mm... Just saying, if you like the 28, you need the 24 also ... I've had the 01a since new in '85 and for nearly 15 years it was the only lens I used. It is such a nice macro lens it took me something like 20+ years and severe peer pressure (aka LBA) for me to get the 90/2.5 macro - that's a nice lens, but not entirely necessary given a 01a.

I'll second wolfiegirl's 103a recommendation, that is a sweet lens, and I'm not usually into such long ones.

Meanwhile, another test with the 20a 70-150, at f/10 with the AF280T flash

*puffs up about being seconded on an adaptall recommendation* I could rise above adaptall novice yet!

beautiful rendering on that 20a!

Not sure if I've shown piccies with the 80-210 103a here before. But here's a few to ponder. I was amazed at the time at how sharp it could go...

Taken handheld at night.. almost forgotten I'd taken this one. Pretty happy with the amount of detail on the moon.

Taken handheld through a dirty window - was probably about a metre away - maybe less.

handheld on a drive by (car going 100km/h)

And one of the puppies in shade, late in the afternoon. Again handheld:

I love that her eyeball is so sharp it hurts and you can almost feel the texture of her tongue.

I think one copy of the 103a I got - it came practically mint with a receipt still in the box. Whoever it was originally paid $230 for it (!) And yet these days you can get it for less than $50 delivered........... *shakes head*

k100d, tamron 80-210 103a. click on images for exif data

Going to try posting a few shots from the adaptalls

28mm f2.5, ISO 200, F11, 15 seconds

28mm, iso 200, f8 (I I think...might be f11), 1/640

28mm, iso100, f11, 30sec

Here we have the tammy 60-300 sp in full effect at f11 and 30 seconds.

I hope these links work. Holler if they don't.

Bonsoir Nesster,

Thanks for the photos with the 20A. It's a lens that I was interested in and have found an inexpensive copy in the UK. Thus, I think that I'll go for it ...Looks good to me!

Merci encore et salut, J Frog
