Yep, and unless I'm mistaken there's a tiny bit of back focus in that nice first image. At least that's the way I'd critique it if it were mine.

I can do as well with my SP Adaptall-2s as with any other modern lenses -- but only when I diligently apply years of MF technique and assuming the AF lenses had actually target the focal plane I intended.

Focusing habits and applied tactics practiced over years require foresight and patience to apply effectively -- something modern AF features are making discipline a non-necessity and lost skill.

What bothers me today is that I can blame 'misses' on that lousy Pentax AF instead of my own diligence in gettin' it right in the VF. 's OK, my skill with a non-syncromesh, manual transmission ain't what it used to be either.

I'd admit that digital economics and burst mode technology have offered never before seen opportunities for capturing action shots but the satisfaction in getting it right in just one well planned and executed film frame is sadly missing today -- I just ain't what I used to be either.

Hi, Rooihennie, really like the light in your picture. This is one of the benefits of living in such a beautiful country. Where you more on the 60mm side of the zoom for that landscape shot?

Hi, PiotrKrochmal, love the 3D effect of your picture, plus it looks real sharp !
Don't have a 52b myself. What do you mean by AF Converter ?

Hi, 52b
Looking at your picture with your 03B and it reminds me of a case of warped mount ring on an AD2 zoom, I would check if the rim of the stainless still ring seems parallel to the black rim of the lens body, just an idea.

Hi, Pacerr
Would totally agree with in respect to attention to detail, too bad I rarely put it to practice ...

I made an entry to this month photo contest using my 01A

And/or camera shake and subject movement - only at 1/250th, I am reluctant to bump the ASA on the NX20 cos it gets noisy much more quickly than the K5. These birds shots are always hit'n miss with MF, by the time I've checked the focus in magnified view (evf) the faster birds are gone (and move in and out of focus while skipping around the feeder faster than I can adjust)... but I can focus Ok at f8 with the evf unlike an optical VF so I don't need to twiddle the aperture ring.
Should really have used a tripod.

Thanks LeCat! Yes, the shot was taken towards the wider end, although I can't remember the exact focal length.

A few years ago I purchased the Pentax AF 1.7X TC to determine if it would add a useful auto focus function to my manual focus Adaptall SP lenses. I found that I spent more time and effort pre-focusing and then VERIFYING the AF results of the Pentax TC than if I had simply manually focused to begin with. Both my SP 360B, 30A. 52BB and DA* 300 do very well with the Pz-AF 1.4X TC.

I prefer the Pz-AF 1.4x over the Adaptall 140F used with the Adaptall lenses because I don't have to remove and re-set the PK/A mount adapter when using the TC. Unless you want to permanently add the TC to a lens I see no reason to keep both TC's and since image results were identical I sold the expensive Pentax TC.

Do all the three tele converters (1 2 3) fit a Tamron adaptall 300mm f/2,8 model 60b and a Pentax K-1 or will the protruding back be a problem?

All the Tamron converters will fit it, yes. (The 200F/SP-200 won't fit everything, but it was mainly designed for the 300mm models so it fits all those.)

Tanks. I was also wondering what is inside the Adaptall2-Pentax adapter ring with electronic contacts? Can an adapter without the contacts easily be modified to give me Pentax A-series functionality? If I choose an adapter without the contacts, are they all the same?

I will probably just use the 1,4x TC that is included with the Tamron 300/2,8 until I find a Pentax-F 1,7x adapter with AF for a reasonable price. The prices I found on ebay are crazy.

More info on my adaptall info page.

Information page on Tamron adaptall, adaptall-2 system and lenses

I don't know anyone who has attempted to "PKA" a PKM mount, I think it would be feasible but difficult to duplicate the initial f-stop variance. This page discusses modding a PKM lens.I have been pondering whether there would still be the iris stop down problem when to modding an adaptall PKM adapter - not sure.

Adaptall 65B SP 400/4 with 140F 1.4 TC

Anyone that regularly uses the Adaptall TC's? Personally I'm not a big fan of TC's in general - probably because I don't know how to get the best performance out of them. What should one consider to get the best out of the 140F? What are your experiences?

Below is a shot from a few days ago - 400/4 65B + 140F
