Well I use both PKM and PKA mounts, and I find it handy to have an M42 mount available in case a lens doesn't perform well auto aperture - iris a little sticky for example. For lenses like the mirrors it doesn't matter which I use. I have posted on the pernicketiness of the PKA's see my posts here.
The K mount side of the generic PK mount is usually black like a M42 mount. The pic of an M42 mount on my page isn't very big but if you google eg adaptall M42 you'll pull up any number of images.

Hmm, I am not convinced about the usefulness of an Adaptall to M42 adapter that a PK/M or a PK/A adapter would not have in this digital age.

I have read your posts regarding the fickleness of PK/A adapters, while there are some points that were new but mostly they are experiences of any of us dedicated Adaptall lenses users have encountered at one time or another - and found ways to work around them - while shooting with these wonderful legacy lenses. Considering the age of these adapters, I am thankful that they are still all working without problems. Anyway, to minimize the fickleness of the PK/A adapters to a minimum, I have outfitted every SP lenses (with aperture ring) with PK/A adapters and the rest with PK/M adapters. And so far, this strategy seem to be working fine.

I have done the same. But ended up with 2 Adaptall M42 adapters. Handy if I'm using a spotmatic film camera. Lately using various Pentax digital and film cameras.

Of course if you are still shooting film, the Adaptall to M42 adapters may come in handy, but I am almost certain that I will never shoot with film ever again. I have a hankering now and then to shoot with the Pentax S but even if I do, I'll shoot with the lenses that were contemporary to the body - I believe the earliest Adaptall lenses came into being a good fifteen years after the S.

I didn't expect to fire up my film cameras but inherited a spotmatic and amongst other gear a 28mm adaptall with the m42 adapter. Quite enjoy using my Super Taks as originally intended. Also found after much hesitation that developing film was easy. Some good discipline being learnt for my digital camera use, which I think has improved since getting back into film. Even bought a MF film camera!

One of my great pleasures with Adaptall lenses is being able to share them across many different mounts. The accumulation of a variety of different adapters makes that possible.

Sometimes the M42 or T-mount adapter becomes a universal intermediary for a second unusual mount combination. I have a bellows set up to use the M42 mount as a universal solution.
