How 46A compares to...

I just bought copy of 70 - 210 lens (46A) for its P/KA mount. I suppose SP 23A (60 - 300) and modern Sigma 70-300 DG APO should be better, but maybe I can keep it if it is really good. Any opinions? Is it better than 103A?

...well, I have.also some other lenses covering this range.

Anyway I promise to post some test pictures here even if I suppose this one will go to the marketplace at some discount price.

Of the five (4 manual focus and 1 autofocus) Tamron adaptall zooms with the 70-210mm range, the f3.5 19AH gets the best review here at PF, better than the 103A:
Tamron Adaptall-2 SP 70-210mm f/3.5 (19AH) Lens Reviews - Tamron Adaptall Lenses - Pentax Lens Review Database

The 103A does seem to be available in good condition much cheaper (and more frequently) than the 19AH, and scores a bit better than the other 70-210mm Tammy adaptalls. Your 46A, while scores less well than the 103A in the review ratings, it does seem to rank second best of the 70-210mms. If you got it for what you were willing to spend for an adapter, and it is in good condition, it might be an incredibly good buy, and worth giving a long and good tryout before turning your nose up at it. The tastes of other users in the reviews can't be considered absolute; in fact, they don't all agree. You might pick up a 103A, and find that you actually like the 46A's handling and what you get from it better than the 103A, despite what the reviews say.

Interestingly, the 46A gets the best ratings of all the 70/80-210mm adaptalls in the modern photography tests cited on adaptall-2.com - at least for resolution.

IMO it is the best of the "consumer" adaptall 70/80-210'd - better corrected and more natural rendition than 103A. The latter though is so easily acquired for next to nothing that you might as well pocket one.

You can compare 46A to others on my test pages (specifically the turret test pic - I need to add 46A to the castle test)

Thank you. I had 103A and quite liked it. I kept the best part - genuine lens hood which I like better compared to some old Takumar/K series ones. The only problem with 103A was overlaping with 3 other Adaptall's and other lenses...

So I will test 46A when it arrives (on APS-C and Pentax Q). But most probably will try to sell it for something like 15 USD...

I struggle with that zoom overlap issue, too--ha, ha! I keep trying to figure out which one or two I can cull. But then I take some new photos that tell me to not be so hasty about getting rid of the one I thought I was ready to let go of. Woe is me.

46A (70-210 3.8-4 Ad-2)

I tested my new 46A lens and it seems to be a keeper. This lens is sharp wide open. I tested it also on 01F (SP Adaptall TC) and it is also acceptable wide open (420/8 substitute)... I do not want to post boring test images, but promise to post first real pictures I will have.

I'm finding it quite a nice lens, indeed.
