An excellent review submission, Marcus. I've sorted through a dozen or so adapters over the years but never with the organized documentation you provided.

I have to remind myself we're dealing with 30-40 year old hardware and it's only through the convenience of the internet that we're able to assemble enough used items to do such a survey. When new, and presumably in new condition, the lenses and adapters were well beyond my humble means to have more than one or two of the lenses and one adapter to pair with a Spotmatic. In later years it's been a pleasure to be able to own some of the best Adaptall-2 SP lenses and enough adapters to compare individual 'eccentricities'.

I'd note that the flexibility available for fiddling with exposure in today's DSLR's combined with instant histograms makes it feasible to quite effectively use the very reliable PK adapters. The pace and rhythm of shooting with them recalls the Spotmatic experience.

I have finally managed to acquire a 30A. As you can see it's a bit of a scruffy one, but that's why I managed ot get it for the price I did. And optically it's fine.
One thing I have already discovered is that if you don't have the original tripod mount, it's no problem, the cheap 65-66mm ID ones from China are a good fit, no modding necessary.
Light was poor but I took some pics...

I was at the Spinnies (N Wales Wildlife Trust) trying some digiscoping and took some pics of the finches and nuthatches on the feeders with the 30A.

.... 103a ... i get asked occasionally what is the best bang for the lens buck for a " beginner " .... well, since all beginners want to start with a fun telephoto, i mention 03a for $3, or 103a for $6.50 .... i have 3 or 5 of these myself, so it could be that i am ensured to be a perpetual beginner ( g ) ...

That's a steal if you also get the adaptall mount. The mount is more expensive than the 103A...

Another sample from the 103A:

adaptall-1 70-350mm CZ-735

This was described as tamron adaptall-2 for canon vintage lens". I was the only bidder. There are some tendrils of light fungus but I think i can get at most of that from the front and clean it off.
The fd mount it came with was of a design i haven't seen before - an early adaptall-1 I think.
I will do some comparison pics against my 05A (a lens I have been a bit disappointed with) when I can, weather is not conducive and I am busy with other stuff: still trying to fix the iris on a viv 24-48mm, nead to clean a sigma 600mm mirror...

X-posted from the 300mm plus lens club...

First time I've seen eagles sitting side-by-side.

First 2 photos taken with the Tamron Adaptall-2 400/4 65B + Pentax A 1.4x-L, last 2 photos just the bare lens.
