And here's an example stopped down to about f/8 or so. Very sharp indeed!
Very very nice work.

How did you get the Pentax mount on the FL with right distance?
I did have a look at converting a 35/f2 FL lens but didnt think it would be worth the trouble since its so different from the newer FDn lenses.

Due to the short Flange-Focal distance, it was impossible to get it to focus to infinity without removing the mount and further shaving down the rear. I had initially machined down a chromed brass K mount from a 3rd party lens and anchored it in with screws, but I was unhappy with the finished result, so I ended up using a black anodized m42 to K adapter that I also had to shave down (with inset groove to allow the m/a ring to move). I attahced this with an industrial strength adhesive, which appears to be holding up quite well, considering it is bonding 2 aluminum surfaces together. I'll post some pics of the lens form all angles later today if I get a chance.

Aah. I have done similar attempts
Would love to see the mount.

Maybe I should have a second look at that 35/2 I have.

Aaaand another one, the cult classic auto Sears (Mamiya) Sekor SX 50m mf/1.4:

This one featured the Mamiya SX mount, which is a non-standard variation of the m42 screw mount, but with a raised lip and extra pin for metering. As such, it would not normally mount on a standard m42 body or adapter.

Mods performed:
- tear-down, cleaning and re-lube
- declicking of aperture ring (this lens is in demand as a video lens, and I figured I'd get it out of the way ahead of time. Probably the smoothest clickless aperture on a 35mm lens that I have done!
- machining off of lip and aperture pin, with bevel added to lower portion of ring to match upper side
- re-anodizing and re-lettering (I kept the black on the rear mount/lower barrel this time, but re-did the lettering even on the lower barrel).

Other observations:
- The aluminum used in the construction of this lens shows a lot more "grain" than that used by the Pentax lenses.
- This lens was rather beaten up (sorry, no before pics), with some corrosion to the aluminum on the front ring and rear mount. The anodizing process did not completely remove this, but does a good job of making it look much nicer.
- the grease used by Mamiya on this lens is horribly sticky and was a major pain to clean out

Anyway, I hope you like it. It has a bit different a look than the Pentax lenses I have been doing.
These lenses are amazing! I'm starting to get some ideas

Why haven't you posted these on the gear porn thread yet?

Brian,

Glad to hear you are feeling better.

I liked the tree at dusk image. Very, very nice. They are all very good.

I like that lens also. It results look better than the later and more expensive FDn 50/1.2. I sold that lens and the FL 85/1.8 to a collector. I thought I was done with FL lenses. I regretted it within a week! I later bought another.

Carl Zeiss Planar 50/1.8 in Rollei QMB mount ... gently "force fitted" on the K-5 ... no focus past 1.5m, but still fun to play around with ... J

FL/FD conversions to K-mount

I am fascinated by the work dcshooter has done as well as the comments and work of alisant. I own Canon FL 55 mm f 1.2, Canon FD 55 mm f 1.2, and Canon 50 mm f 1.4. I am very interested in having one or more of these lenses converted for use with Pentax K-mount cameras. I will greatly appreciate any advice, comments, reactions to the idea, particularly regarding quality of FL vs FD lenses, and which ones are best for converting. I have a good number of other FL and FD lens, but these are the three most interesting ones.
