Couple of flower photos with the mirror lens

Two flower shots with the K-1 and Mamiya 500mm f 8.0 Reflex/mirror lens. On these shots, I kicked up the ISO to 3200 to yield shutter speeds of 1/160 and 1/200 seconds. That and the SR feature of the K-1 make this kit pretty much hand holdable even at 500mm.

Not about a Pentax lens, but Barney Britton over at DPR has given some love to the Nikon 1000/11 Mirror...

It's an older MTO, I think. It came in a wooden case with a selection of huge filters for b&w shooting, and it looks like this: MTO 1000 10/1000 m42 mirror meniscus russian lens / top35mm.com

That appears to be much older than mine. Mine is the Rubinar 1000/10 made in 1998. It has some different features.

Few shots with Mamiya 500mm

Some sample shots with the K-1 and Mamiya 645 C 500mm f 8.0 reflex. These are JPEGs hand-held and SOC.

New reflex lens just received today

I just got a copy of Tokina 500mm f 8.0 reflex in MD Minolta mount. Minolta mount lenses on Pentax have to be used with an adapter containing glass to compensate for incompatible cross-camera registry distances, and this ordinarily reduces lens acuity. Even so, this reflex lens is at least as sharp as the one I have been sampling from Mamiya. Both are 500mm f 8.0. Snaps below are with K-1.

if you're going to try a mount swap, this is the lens to do it with - no complications. Get a junk pk mount lens from somewhere as a source of a pk mount. preferable to using an optical adapter IMO.

Back when I was shooting Canon, I converted my Minolta MD mount Tokina 500/8 to M42, for which I already had an adapter to Canon EOS. Yes, pretty simple: it must have been for me to get it working!

Here's what I was able to do with it on my 20D:

Documentary

Poetry

I've since sold this modified lens on, preferring the performance of the Tamron 55BB.

Thanks for the advice. Sorry to miss your response, but Holidays have been hectic.

Lesser Goldfinch

The Vivitar Solid Cat 800mm on a K70. Unfortunately the bird is wider than the DOF of the lens for the distance I was shooting from. Darn there mirror lenses anyway.
