The beak looks like a turkey's, and not at all like a vulture's to me. It looks rather pale for a North American wild turkey, but there can be individuals that vary highly from the typical color deepness, hue, or pattern of their species.

We used to have a rather blond red fox around here. About the only way to know it was a red fox was that it had the white tale tip they have, and that its body and head shape, including the ears, had the red fox shape, which is clearly different from the local gray foxes..

I came across a gaggle of Wild Turkeys. They all ran away, except this one that flew into a tree. Common sight in South Dakota.

Great shot, Rick! Got a question for you. Did you convert this image to grayscale, or is it still in color? Reason why I ask is, whenever I take photos of the moon, I make sure to leave them in color. It is actually possible to detect fine color shadings in the various features of the moonscape. But I can't really detect any color in your photo, which is why I ask.

Thanks! Yes, it’s converted to b&w. I’ll try a re-edit and see what I can do keeping it in color.

Hmm, looks like somebody just jammed up the saturation slider in their processing software. I prefer my unadulterated photos. Pale blues and yellows are quite visible in the below shot.

I just found this thread.
I have the Spiratone Minitel 500mm f:8 lens. Not a huge fan, I like what it tries to do. I wish it wasn't so soft. I take lots of pics of the moon with it and its just soft. I try to sharpen the pics in post, Not real bad, and not real good.
Here is the last moon I shot from Fri the 13th

Post #1053 above has a nice shot. I like the look the Tamron 55B SP makes.

Can a telescope qualify here? The above photo was made with my Sky-Watcher BK 1145 (500 mm f4.4) and Pentax Q. Few frames stacked in Registax.

Regardless of the mirror lens, it's tricky to get focus that's spot-on. (Speaking from experience).

It is certainly true that trying to discriminate focus by eye at f8 has an inherent imprecision. What you see as best focus/what the focus cues tell you is best focus can still prove to be slightly off when viewed on screen. Focus bracketing can help.
