If you have lightroom, there is a lens block where you can click on the Remove CA button or actually click on an eye dropper and click on the purple color.
Hi, trying to learn more here - I was under the impression that purple fringing is a different phenomenon than chromatic aberration...?

I don't really know. In the wikipedia article on CA (Chromatic aberration - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia), purple fringing is listed as a type of it. All I know is that if you click the CA button, the most egregious fringing seems to go away.

I think you've got the jist of it.
All purple fringing is Chromatic Aberation, but all CA is not Purple Fringing.

P.S. Not really meant to sound like I think I'm an expert.

ok so after a couple of weeks (or so it seems) waiting for the 55mm to get delivered, it is finally here. Just a couple of quick and dirty shots of my other money vaccume to see how it performs.

Focusing this thing wide open is going to need some more care than this.

And a few shots for the motorcycle forum I am also involved with.

Congratulation! This lens is already long time on my wish list but as I've just bought FA50 f1.7, I'm afraid 55 will have to wait...

Great lens,I wish you good shots. Especially portrait shoots need more care wide open but ideal diaphragm is f2.0

I picked up a used DA* 60-250 last week, mostly for an upcoming trip to the Everglades, but also just to have a high quality lens for shots beyond the reach of my limited kit.

For now, I'm making simple tests with my backyard birds. I'm not one into shooting smaller birds, but since my K3 is relatively new, too, I thought I'd see how well images such as the one below would crop down. The image has been cropped to about 8 MP (and then further reduced for the web).

ISO 400, f/8, 1/500 sec.

Thanks... I'm happy with it. I'll feel comfortable that I'll get the shots I want and that I won't need a 300 mm or larger reach for what little I really shoot out at that range anyway. Heck, if I needed to enlarge a crop like that, it'll still be better than what I got with similar shots and my 55-300.

Interestingly, I got quite a few keepers (similar shots) with the only negative being the obvious challenges of getting the focal point right when the birds are up in the trees like that. Thankfully, my target subjects in Florida will likely be much larger animals. I'm not terribly fond or interested in small birds.
