Nice one Yasik!

A question for all the DA*55 owners, do you always use the hood? I been looking at the lens and the front element looks fairly recessed, is there a drop in IQ without the hood?

I use it, very often, not always because of IQ, but because it defends lens much.

A local craigslist ad is listing a DA* 16-50mm f2.8 for $600....I'm so tempted; it'd be my only weather-sealed lens and for landscape trips, could almost be my only lens to bring along...Argh, stupid SDM motors
With the range of the DA* 16-50/2.8, I often use it in manual focus anyway as I do with my DA 12-24/4. With wide angle lenses I often want the focus point to be in a specific place. It's easier just to focus the lens by hand than select the focus point to use.

Now if my 50-135 could only get its focusing to work, I would be a happy camper. It has been repaired twice under warranty by Pentax Canada, and its gone again. What one does with a 50-135 calls for auto focus a lot more often than the wide angles do. I'll keep the lens - there isn't much out there that compares optically, so I manually focus it. Optically, all three of my DA/DA* lenses are extremely good. Why couldn't the SDM on my 16-50 give up instead of the 50-135? it's just not fair! I use the 16-50 a lot more often than the 50-135.

Im really happy with the DA*55 !
Nothing really worthy to post up in here yet, just mostly been mucking around the house testing it out.
This lens is so accurate, it gets focus lock first time, everytime, and doesnt even hunt, even in almost darkness! Silent focusing is a nice welcome too
It may not be the fastest focus speed but its no slouch ethier.
Very sharp and contrasty with very smooth OOF.

My first few with the DA*55, nothing special, just with my boy at the park in the HARSH mid-day sun.

Slow AF? Had no problem locking on this at f/2-

And my nephew-

DA*55 looks great - do you think it's worth the premium over a F or FA 50/1.4 though?

DA*50-135 really is living up to the 'bag full of primes' billing, but is quite weighty:

Simon, those are great! It seems that DA*55 + K-5 might fantastic combo. I'm very happy with it on K-7 but was pondering whether K-5 would help it even more. Especially the DR, faster AF and better high ISO would be nice... Now I just need to save a "bit"
