I was curious, does anybody keep a UV filter on their DA*s? I have a Hoya HMC coated UV on my 50-135 and from what I've seen it doesn't affect IQ to any sort of degree.

DA*55 looks great - do you think it's worth the premium over a F or FA 50/1.4 though?

DA*50-135 really is living up to the 'bag full of primes' billing, but is quite weighty:
Thanks Rob Well from images ive seen from both, the DA*55 looks like it renders images with better subject isolation (a.k.a 3D pop), along with more accurate AF (plus silent) and weather sealing, I'am verry happy with this purchase. The FA50 doesnt interest me in anyway.

Simon, those are great! It seems that DA*55 + K-5 might fantastic combo. I'm very happy with it on K-7 but was pondering whether K-5 would help it even more. Especially the DR, faster AF and better high ISO would be nice... Now I just need to save a "bit"
Thanks Peter! Yeah the K-5 is nice, its AF motor makes my screw drive lenses quite faster than on the K200D, I dont really use the high ISO that much but it is nice to have when I need it, the Dynamic range really is something though, I recently photographed a Cathedral and was doing 5 shot brackets( for HDR) but only ended up using just one shot and just lifted the darks and shadows in PP!

The ratio of "I always use them" to "I never use them" is about 1 to 1. At the moment I am in the "I don't even has one that fits" stage, and have been for about 20-25 years now. My front elements, even on the old 400 that has taken a real beating, show no scars, That said, there are places where I would buy them before using the lenses. Dolphin pools and orcas trained to splash the audience come to mind.

Great shots, and loving your b&w conversion - great tones. What's your method, if you don't mind me asking?

lovely series Simon.. I agree that the conversions are great but what puzzles me even more is the sharpness. Any tricks there? I simply can't get shots THAT sharp....
