If it were me I'd probably opt for the 50-135 F/2.8 for indoors. It's like the 60-250's little brother. Easier to handhold, razor sharp, great colours and probably a more optimised portrait lens

I guess it depends on how far you will be from the subjects.

Couple with the 16-50. My dog is already posted in the pets thread.

Already posted an extra long exposure from a similar spot using the 12-24. This was predawn using the 16-50 and a soft ND grad for 15 seconds only.

Thanks! Yeah it can certainly produce excellent results!

Have a look at this one, this is almost a 100% crop of the bottom of a frame taken at f/1.4 -

Testing my old DA* 16-50 right after AF adjustment on newly purchased K-5 I took this one wide open.
There is something in it that constantly draws my attention back.

Thinking I need to feed the addiction.... DA*60-250 or maybe the Sigma 85mm 1.4.... ??? Any thoughts? I love all the features of the DA* but the 85 sounds like such a beautiful lens as well.

The DA* 60 -250 is an absolutely stellar lens. It almost even edges out the DA* 50-135 F/2.8 (which has until recently been my favourite zoom) in terms of IQ.

The extra reach is very useful for pursuits such as sports or even birding to some extent, the colours are wonderful, the contrast punchy and the images tack sharp. Its very hard to beat this zoom for the money.

I have no experience with the Siggy 85, but as I have both the FA77 and the 50-135, I have very little need to discover it. If it were me, I'd buy whichever lens you 'need' the most right now and save for the other (although I'd no doubt choose a Pentax lens over a Sigma)

Do you need a fast portrait lens or a stellar all rounder with reach?

Here are a few DA* 60-250 shots to whet your appetite

Nice variety there. I'd agree with you re the 60-250 - wonderful lens. Probably my favourite.

Mucking about with the DA*16-50 (and mucking about with the processing) at a very dull Buttermere a couple of weeks back. There for dawn but it was just miserable. Lovely and calm for a while but the wind soon arrived.
