K200D get new lease on life as a concert camera. The DA* 16-50mm F2.8 really focuses well in low light!

That's an insane shot! Would you mind giving a quick run-through of your process for stacking the sky shots and how you calculate exposure? I've seen people crank up the ISO and take a ~30 second exposure with a fast lens before to capture the Milky Way in extremely dark areas but I'm guessing you're using lower ISO values with the stacks? Are you using the Pentax Star Tracer qizmo? Very well done!

West coast of Scotland, from memory around 15 exposures for the sky, plus one for the ground. Would have been better if I didn't leave the CPL on

Next time!!!

Many thanks for the kind comments, which I find very encouraging. I will do a short write-up of the process tomorrow when I have more time to check EXIFs. Of course the processing is very heavy here - this was my first attempt to do something like this with multiple exposures. I had taken the same picture at this location a year ago with a single exposure and I will show the differences and discuss a little when I have time to write a short post!

Finally joined the club

Just got my first 'pro' lens, the 16-50. I am way way happy with it, sharp as hell and just lovely whatchamacalits. Using it with my k01 for now. Some PF as I've read but so far easily remedied in LR.
....and here is the obligatory new lens cat shot:
Can't wait to really put it to work.

I like the good pussy

I totally understand your appreciation of the "whatchamacalits". I have had my 16-50 for a couple of years and I still don't know how to describe its good points in photographer talk. Whateveritisthatit'sgot works.

Send your 16-50 copy to me for a few weeks and I'll see about hammering out those whatchamacallits into plain English
