Beautiful work, Mark. Not sure what happened with that last page -- I guess there just aren't that many folks shooting and posting with the DA * lenses.

Not sure why - I use the 16-50 and the 60-250 and they are both superb.

Mark-- Beautiful images; did you have to HDR/DRI in post-processing, or was there enough detail lurking in the shadows that you could use a single exposure?

FWIW, I've been diligently following your work, especially on the "black-and-white" thread--my wife and I spent a fortnight in Glasgow a few years back and still call any spectacular lighting conditions, "Scotland light," even here in the wilds of East Tennessee.

Aye, Scottish light is great :-)

Off to Skye in a couple of weeks for five days with three like minded pals. Great company, great scenery and hopefully the right weather.

I only ever use a single RAW file which is then processed in LR4. If I'm doing a mono I spend a minute or two in Silver Efex. I generally spend no more than two or three minutes editing an image as I usually know what I'm trying to achieve.

Beautiful! Great atmosphere as always.

It's probably been discussed already but what was broken on your 60-250? Was it SDM?
Mine had been great for me so far but every time I forget the switch on the lens turns AF off I think I'm having a SDM failure. But then I move the switch, it springs to life and I heave a sigh of relief!

Marklj--Thanks for elaborating, but I don't know if learning what can be achieved so quickly is comforting or intimidating... At any rate, I'll look forward to captures from Skye--it, like the Orkney's, have been on my bucket list for a while.

It was announced this morning that the USA Pro Challenge (big pro bike race) will be starting a stage in our town next summer. That's exciting for our little town!
Even more exciting for me personally is the city used my image (a panorama made with the DA* 60-250 from a nearby mountain top) for our host city page!

In the worse case if you can't find it, at least there is a fairly affordable replacement now instead of the expensive Pentax part:

Fanotec Replacement Lens Foot for Pentax DA*60-250mm, DA*300mm and Adapter Q to K - PentaxForums.com
I just got this on Friday. Nicely made, and much more compact than the stock one. Looks like it will work well for me. Thanks for the suggestion!

Really like how the 60-250 compresses the scene. Excellent photos.

Awesome, congrats! I'd say that image deserves a home on a homepage Now you can look forward to bringing the 60-250 to the race and getting some action photos.

I agree with you about the quality of the DA* lenses. I have the 16-50 and the 50-135. I don't have your skill or your vision, but every now and then, when the planets align, I get it right and allow the lenses to show me what they can do. They are "how did I do that?" moments

Richard.

This is shaping up to be a great series--I wonder if the last shot especially would look good as a monochrome, or if the current contrast between the "green" and "russet" leaves would get lost in greyscale? Fingers crossed, because otherwise there's really a lot of structural "rhyming" going on.
