Firstly.... showcasing two different sides of the DA* 50-135. Simply a great lens.

Subtle ....

And excessive (5 Shot HDR)....

.....And here is a few from the DA* 16-50

They have just been joined by their larger brother DA* 60-250 - I hope the 50-135 wont be neglected!

Ugh, I'm trying to resist the urge to spend more money to get a DA* 16-50 and those awesome shots don't help my finances!

Thanks all, it took me a while to appreciate the 16-50, not least because the FL doesn't really 'naturally' appeal to me so much. I count myself more as a short tele shooter, although I am learning with the wider angle stuff.

It is a very fine lens, even if (on my copy) CA is not always as well controlled 'in lens' as I would like. That said, at the levels exhibited (using the current generation of software) that need not be a concern at all. There is usually contrast and sharpness to spare, facilitating a flexible approach to post processing - including moderate perspective correction where needed (as showcased on the cube houses and De Rotterdam 'skyscraper' shots).

Johnc, I love your two city shots. THe first is... excessive and colorful, but not unpleasantly so IMO. And the second has a sense of warmth(?) to it that I quite like. Great shots

My DA* 50-135 is finally being repaired, so I hope to have that back and get shooting that soon. I'll have to sort through and upload some shots from my DA* 16-50... And you guys aren't saving my wallet. I really want that DA* 55 now

Now need wider lens. looking at 50-135 and amazing shot or and 16-50 the same just great shot. also 12-24 or sigma 10-20 any comment

50-135 is barely any wider than 60-250. No point in that if you just want wider rather than faster.

Since you're new to SLRs, maybe you should pick up a kit lens (18-55) cheap, use it for a while, and if you decide if you feel like you need to go a lot wider, or you feel like you need to go longer while staying close to that wide, or if that's a comfortable range. If it's comfy, go for the 16-50 2.8. If you want a bit more range, you might go with the 17-70 f/4. If you feel like you need to go wider than that, you might be better off getting a 12-24 or going much wider with a Sigma 8-16. If you do that, you'll need something to fill the gap, either a zoom like the 16-50 or maybe some primes, like the 35mm 2.4 and 50mm 1.8, or the 21mm 3.2 and 40mm 2.8 limited primes, or the 20-40 limited zoom.

17% wider and 46% shorter.
